Local Deliveries (25 mile radius of store)
Being a family owned department store, we place the utmost importance on providing the highest standards of customer service, none more so than with our delivery service. We run our own fleet of modern, highly maintained delivery vehicles with crews employed directly by us.
Van crews operate 6 days a week, Monday to Saturday, delivering to over a hundred homes every week within our standard delivery area. On the day of delivery customers will be contacted between 8am and 9.30am ( if a telephone number has been provided) to establish an approximate delivery time, within a two hour window.
Local 'White Glove' Delivery Charges
Delivery costs are not hidden in the price of our goods, so within our standard delivery area we make a nominal charge of £29.00 as a contribution towards the costs of carriage. We will endeavour to accommodate any special requests you may have, but these cannot be guaranteed and along with deliveries outside of our standard delivery area, additional charges may apply. Quotations are available on request.
If you cancel an order or request to return goods because of a change of mind or other reasons that we may deem to be unreasonable or out of our control, we reserve the right, depending on circumstances to retain the deposit or charge up to 20% of the item or order value. This is printed on the reverse of your order form as part of the terms and conditions of purchasing.
Help Us To Help You
It is very important that you ensure there is sufficient large vehicular access to the property, on arrival at your home our crews will want to position the goods in the room of your choice so as well as checking that the goods will fit through all access doors and stairwells. As an added safeguard, customers are advised to make sure that all necessary internal routes have been adequately cleared.
Going That Extra Mile
Our drivers will unpack your goods and remove the packaging (*extra charge for electrical/appliance deliveries) and in the case of most divan beds they will also carry out the assembly. That you are happy with your received purchase is very important to us and to ensure that the goods reach you in tip top condition our delivery crews are fully trained in all the necessary handling techniques. Similarly, as invited visitors to your home the delivery crews will make sure that respect and consideration extends to your property.
For these reasons we require you, or someone on your behalf, to be available upon delivery and to sign the dispatch note to confirm the goods have been received and your property has been left in good condition.
Collection & Disposal (within a 25 mile radius of store)
We offer a disposal services for beds, furniture and large domestic appliances. Where for a nominal charge we'll collect your old items at the same time as delivering your new ones. This needs to be arranged at the time of purchase.
- Bed/Mattress: £29
- Upholstery: £9 per seat (e.g. 3 seater sofa = £27)
- Washers/Cookers: £15
- Fridges/Fridge Freezers: £20
- Packaging taken away (electrical/appliance deliveries) £5
All items must be appropriately prepared for collection/disposal as follows:
- Beds must be dismantled.
- Electrical items must be disconnected from the electricity and/or water and drainage supplies.
- Washing machines and dishwashers must be fully drained of any water and disconnected from supply.
- Freezers and fridges must be fully defrosted, empty of any goods, and dry.
- Gas cookers must be disconnected from the supply.
We offer an installation service on selected domestic appliances (local deliveries only), there is an additional charge for this service. Please ensure that electricity and/or water supplies are present and active in the exact area of your home where you'd like your appliance installed. We are not able to set up new services/connections in your property.
Recycling of Waste Electrical Items
If you’re buying a new electrical item, we will happily recycle your old equipment for free. A small collection charge will be made if you cannot bring the item in store.
Unwanted electrical equipment is the UKs fastest growing type of waste - and here at Atkinsons we want to help do something about that statistic.
Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, helping to protect the environment and save on the use of natural resources such as precious metals. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment often ends up in landfill and can take many years to breakdown, harming wildlife and the soil.

We are able to offer a disposal service to assist our customers in ridding themselves of old appliances in an environmentally friendly and responsible way.
You are able to leave items with us in-store, or for a small fee we will collect the items on delivery of your new appliance product (like-for-like). Please ask when ordering about this service and our team will be happy to explain the process.
To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol) in your bin. Please utilise our disposal service.
What is WEEE?
The Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items. In the UK, distributors (including retailers) must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. Those establishing their own take-back scheme must as a minimum offer all customers buying new electrical equipment free take back of their old electricals on a like-for-like basis.

National Deliveries (online orders)
For online orders we may use a carefully selected third party courier service (either utilised by us or our suppliers) to conduct deliveries on our behalf. Please note: delivery of large appliances (fridges, ovens, washing machines, dishwashers etc.) is only available within a 25 mile radius of store.. You will be informed after placing an order with us as to whether you can expect our own delivery team or a third party courier to deliver your item. Third party courier services deliver to your door and do not offer a 'white glove' (room of choice, packaging taken away) service.
Please ensure that when placing an order for larger goods (furniture, beds etc.) that there is sufficient access to your property for delivery, and that your chosen goods will fit in your room, by measuring the available space.
National Delivery Charges
The majority of national deliveries (+25 miles of store) will be carried out by a third party logistics company, you will be informed if this is the case. However, deliveries by 3rd parties will not be a white glove service (i.e. unpacking, room of choice, packaging taken away, set up etc.). National deliveries by Atkinsons will be quoted separately in store. If you wish to purchase a white glove service then please get in touch with the store. Additional charges will apply for Norther Ireland, Channel Islands, Highlands of Scotland and other remote areas of the UK.
Installation and disposal charges will be shown on the specific applicable products on this website and charged separately.
If an item is to be delivered for self-assembly (e.g. selected furniture and beds), then you will be made aware of this either on the product page or after placing your order with us.
